REFERENCES
During the interview with your prospective Wedding DJ's, always ask for references on the company as well as the actual DJ that will be doing your event. This should be readily available. If the DJ hesitates it is not a good sign.
Some DJ companies have several DJ's on contract and will allocate a DJ to your event. That's also OK, but still get to meet the actual DJ that wil be doing your event. You need to know, like and trust your DJ. You don't want a stranger with who you do not have a connection doing your most important event.
Some clients ask to see the DJ perform. That can usually be arranged but can also sometimes be problematic as the DJ does not control access / guest / invitees to the other event that you may possible want to attend and the hosts may not want stangers at their event. You may arrive at the dinner hour when not much is going on. The DJ does not have time to pay attention to you as he is working the event, etc.
I recently attended a wedding on cruise liner in San Diego Bay where the DJ was contracted by the ship wedding coordinators, and then he delayed the wedding by coming 20 minutes late! How tacky.
Some clients write references that can be posted on the web site, or you can call up the list of references personally to discuss their DJ experiecne with them.
